The Euro Airseal Range
This is our latest new shoe, and we are quite excited about it!
The first of our own ‘Euro Airseal’ range of shoes and boots we are currently creating.
In 1990, when the first shoes were made by hand in Brighton, we started with a simple lace-up shoe. Then, when we got Doctor Martens in Northampton to make our first factory made shoes in 1992, it was a basic lace-up shoe that we started with. Since then, we have made and sold many versions of this classic utilitarian shoe made by different factories in the UK and EU. This is our latest version.
Despite Vegetarian Shoes going for 36 years, we feel like we are just getting started! For the last couple of years we have been working on our new ‘V sole’ and last combo. It’s taken much longer than expected. Why are we surprised? Everything does right! We are still ironing out the fine details.
The ‘First Pancake’ Batch
This initial batch has been produced to try out our new sole in all sizes, plus hopefully create a bit of interest in the shoes and boots to come. These are a ‘first pancake’ batch! Tasty, but not quite the finished version. Eg. The production model will have two or three rows of stitching on the side, not four, and the pattern will be cut bit higher at the back. etc. etc.
This first batch is a limited edition, and the introductory price is £89.00. (25% cheaper than the finished version will be).
When we get going properly, the price will be around £120 for the shoes and about £140 for the lace up boots.
A Labour of Love: The New Airseal ‘V’ Sole
This new Airseal ‘V’ Sole has been something of a labour of love. Two+ years of going back and forth from the UK to Portugal, turning pencil drawings into CAD and then 3D printed samples and then yet more samples. We wanted something distinct and recognisable as our own brand of sole. It also had to be comfortable, flexible, with good traction through its different stages of wear life, durable, lightweight, and adaptable to different styles of shoes and boots. And we think we have done it!
Some of the sole features can’t actually be seen. The honeycomb of air chambers inside keep the unit lightweight and flexible in the front part, and in the rear the bigger air chambers help cushion ‘heel strike’ whilst walking. We will probably do some more nerdy footwear explaining in due course, with some shoes cut in half to show what’s going on inside.
Meanwhile, more Euro Airseal styles are coming soon using our new ‘V sole’ unit. Keep an eye on our website for the next releases.
Our Shoe-Making Journey
These latest shoes are the next step in our shoe-making journey. We are genuinely passionate about making quality human footwear without animal leather.
• That is as environmentally friendly as possible.
• Made with plant-based and recycled materials.
• That is comfortable.
• That has a predictable fit.
• That is breathable, water-resistant and foot friendly.
• That looks good and ages well.
• That lasts as long as possible.
• But is repairable.
• And is made in the EU, not in sweat shops.
• And is affordable.
It’s a tall order!
We are still on the journey - we have more ideas coming!
